"Sontheimer Höhle" (Sontheim Cave)
The Sontheim Cave on the edge of the Tiefen valley south of Heroldstatt, is the oldest show cave in Germany. It was formed as a river cave in the Lower Chalk formation of the White Jurassic Period and 190 m of the known total length of 590 m can now be accessed. There are plenty of attractive sinter formations, stalactites and stalagmites to admire in the cave. As far back as the 18th century, a cave festival has been held here every year on Whit Monday. This is the only time that the "Kohlhaldenhöhle" (Kohlhalden Cave) nearby can be visited.
