Dreifürstenstein School in Münsingen is the new Geopark School
The network of Geopark schools in the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb continues to grow: since March 6, 2026, the Dreifürstenstein School in Münsingen has also been part of it. The network now comprises 13 partner schools that use the landscape of the Swabian Alb as a place of learning and experience.
The Dreifürstenstein School was officially designated the 13th Geopark School during a ceremony on March 6. It is also the first special education and counseling center (SBBZ) in the network.
The event was attended by students, teachers, and parent representatives. After a welcome by school principal Tina Kaiser and Ulrich Ruckh, director of the UNESCO Global Geopark Schwäbische Alb, Wolfgang Welte (KBF as school authority) and Münsingen mayor Mike Münzing offered their congratulations.
Two student representatives led the program. The school choir provided musical accompaniment, including a Swabian song they wrote themselves about the new Geopark School.
Nature as a learning space
Under the annual theme “In the Meadow,” the students implemented numerous projects, including a meadow orchard project with apple harvesting and processing, poems they wrote themselves, a picture book about insects, and a model of the water cycle. The nature surrounding the school regularly serves as a green classroom. During the subsequent tour, the students presented their work and offered, among other things, apple juice pressed from local orchards.
Part of the Geopark School Network
The award marks the beginning of close cooperation with the Geopark. Further projects are planned on topics such as caves, stones, and sustainability. In addition, the students want to test the accessibility of geopoints in the region and share their experiences with the Geopark.
Geopark schools are an important part of the educational work carried out by the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb. The aim is to teach young people about the geological history and landscape of their homeland and to raise their awareness of the need to use natural resources sustainably.
