The working committee is meeting in Schelklingen
On April 13, 2026, the Working Committee of the UNESCO Global Geopark Schwäbische Alb held its annual meeting at the office in Schelklingen. The focus was on current developments, projects, and strategic issues. The meeting provided a comprehensive overview of the work carried out over the past few months. Personnel changes are strengthening key areas of responsibility.
A key priority remains the further development of the Geopoints: new locations have been opened, and more are already in the planning stages. At the same time, the network of information centers is growing steadily. The network of Geopark schools is also being expanded and supported by various educational projects. A important project is the updating of the geotope registry, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026 and will form an essential foundation for future work.
To enhance the Geopark’s visibility, new information boards and campaigns were also presented. At the same time, digital offerings are becoming increasingly important.
Strategic Topics and Outlook
Looking to the future, the update of the master plan was discussed, which is intended to set new guidelines starting in 2027. Other key topics included quality assurance for the geopoints and further digital development.
The meeting made it clear: The Geopark is continuously evolving and is well-positioned to meet future challenges. The working committee brings valuable input from all districts as well as from the Swabian Alb Tourism Association.
The regular “outside perspective,” the long-standing expertise of the members, and the intensive exchange within the committee are of central importance for the Geopark’s further development.
