The UNESCO Geopark Swabian Alb presents new image film "In the flow of time"
We are delighted to present our new promotional film about the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb. Following intensive conceptual and creative work, the film was released on our official YouTube channel a few days ago – inviting viewers to discover the geopark from a new, emotional perspective.
The film, entitled “Im Fluss der Zeit” (In the Flow of Time), takes viewers on a journey through more than 200 million years of Earth's history. Rocks, caves, springs, and valleys tell the story of a landscape that was formed over millions of years and is still shaped today by the interaction of water, stone, and humans.
The film deliberately avoids classic tourist images. Instead, it approaches the geopark as a whole: its geological depth, its characteristic landscapes, the cultural traces, and the people who live and work here. Water as a formative force, movement, and change run like a thread through the visual language—visible in the karst, in rivers, springs, and in the rhythm of the Alb.
UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb – Responsibility for the past and the future
The image film is intended as a visual introduction to the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb – an internationally recognized area that preserves geological heritage, imparts knowledge, and assumes responsibility for a sustainable future. As one of currently eight UNESCO Global Geoparks in Germany, it is part of a worldwide network of 229 geoparks (as of 2026).
The region is also unique worldwide due to its extraordinary density of UNESCO awards. In addition to the UNESCO Global Geopark, it is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Caves and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Alb,” the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps” with the Stone Age village of Ehrenstein, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes, and the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Swabian Alb.
Understanding the past – experiencing the present – shaping the future
“In the flow of time” symbolizes the approach of the film and the work of the geopark as a whole: making geological history comprehensible, conveying connections, and providing impetus for a conscious and sustainable future.
We cordially invite you to immerse yourself in the landscape, history, and living connection of the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb.
