Alb Water Tour in Schelklingen on 26 March / World Water Day

World Water Day is celebrated around the world every year on 22th March. It reminds us: Water is the source of all life and a precious gift. This is still vivid in the memories of the local people on the Swabian Alb. For a long time, water was scarce in the dry karst landscape. Rainwater was collected in ponds or through roof wells. Contaminated water led to high infant mortality. It was not until 1870 that the Alb water supply was established at the Teuringshofen pumping station.

On the occasion of World Water Day, the Schelklingen Tourist Information Office is offering a guided hike on the 12 km Alb Water Tour on Sunday, 26th March. This starts in Justingen and leads along the traces of the Alb water supply through the romantic Schmiechtal valley with cultural monuments such as the picturesque water wheel in Talsteußlingen. On the way back, you will pass the old path where farmers used to drive clean water to the Alb with oxcarts.

Meeting point is at 10:00 am at the Stauferstele Church of St. Oswald (Kirchstraße) in Schelkingen-Justingen. Please wear solid shoes for the five-hour hike. No registration, no fees.
