UNESCO World Heritage

There are also three UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the area of the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb: The "Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes" as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Frontiers of the Roman Empire", the "Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps" with a site near Blaustein, and the "Caves and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Alb" in the Ach and Lone valleys.

Together with representatives of the World Heritage Sites, the UNESCO Global Geopark office is working to implement the goals of UNESCO and to contribute to regional development and exploit synergies through projects in the spirit of sustainability. Thus, the cave "Hohle Fels" is not only part of the World Heritage Site "Caves and Ice Age Art of the Swabian Alb", but as a Geopoint also part of the Geopark project "A Journey into Earth History", which enables visitors to experience the development of the Swabian Alb.
