Geological educational trail on oil shale
On the banks of the Schömberg reservoir, the oil shale of the Black Jurassic epsilon layer can be clearly seen in truncated form. The educational trail was laid down here by the Schömberg branch of the Swabian Alb Society in 2000/2001. The circular trail starts and finishes at the reservoir car park above the Palmbühl Church and is about 2.5 km long. The trail provides information on geology, fossils, animals, the forest in general and various types of trees, bushes and herbs. This trail has a special educational feature as there are really two educational trails in one, both running parallel to each other and each with 30 information panels: one for adults and the other especially designed for children with panels at a lower eye-level.
