"Schertelshöhle" (Schertel's Cave)
The Schertel's Cave is a typical "cleft-gap cave", located in the Lower Felsenkalk formation of the White Jurassic. An artificial entrance leads to a 246 m long cave, which is accessible alongside 160 m. The Schertel's Cave is one of the most beautiful caves on the Swabian Alb, holding a high number of wonderful stalagmites and stalagtites. In the lower corridor you find a big hall 19 m in height, and in the upper corridor you see the „Oblique tower“. The second entrance called "Cow cavity" is 24 m deep. The cave is an important bat habitat. The temperature is around 9°C, and the guided tour lasts approximately 25 minutes. Guided tours are offered every 30 minutes. The Schertels Cave is a Infocentre of the Biosphere Reserve Swabian Alb.
In the opposite the "Stony House" is situated, another well-known cave. The roadhouse is made for 100 people. Drinks and snacks are available.
