Danube breakthrough – upper Danube valley
Between Fridingen and Sigmaringen, the Danube breaks through the Swabian Alb. This has led to the formation of one of the most beautiful landscapes of Baden Württemberg - the upper Danube valley. Rugged towering cliffs made of Upper Jurassic rock with the Danube at its fairly wild stage snaking its way through, shape the scenery. There are wonderful cycling and hiking paths along the valley. From the tops of the cliffs, you can enjoy fascinating views over the valley and the surrounding area and even as far as the Alps if visibility is good.
